HARLEM, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - We are learning more about a large law enforcement presence in Harlem last week that ended with a suspect in custody.

Jamir Key’Shaun Smith, 19, was arrested on Thursday night, according to the Harlem Police Department.

Officers say that on Thursday around 5:52 p.m., they responded to the 100 block of West Millegeville Road about trouble with a stolen firearm.

New details released in fatal Washington County crash

We are learning more about a car crash that left one person dead in Washington County on Tuesday.

On scene, deputies spoke to the victim, who said Smith had stolen a firearm from a car at the Harlem Mini Foods convenience store.

Officers later located a car driven by Smith and attempted a traffic stop. Smith pulled into the 200 block of North Fariview Drive and initially complied with officers.

The incident report states that Smith then ran from officers and was found hiding in a home on the 200 block of Fairview Drive.

A perimeter was set up with the help of the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office.

During this time, the stolen weapon was recovered by officers from the trunk of the suspect’s car.

Driver charged in hit-and-run that killed 24-year-old

A pedestrian is dead and a driver is in custody after a hit-and-run in Hephzibah on Monday, according to the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office.

According to the incident report, Smith broke into the home after being told not to return. The homeowner told officers that Smith didn’t have permission to be inside.

Officers say that once entry was made, they found Smith hiding in a closet and took him into custody.

Smith was booked into the Columbia County Detention Center. He is charged with entering auto to commit theft, theft by taking, obstruction, disorderly conduct and tres, according to the incident report.
