SOAR Academy’s charter petition placed in ‘clarification’ category
AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - SOAR Academy, a school that serves local students with learning disabilities, was looking to get its charter school petition approved Tuesday at the Richmond County School Board Meeting.
However, it was not approved or denied, but placed in the clarification category.
Meaning the petition to become a charter school needs more information for a decision to be made.
Contractors see light at end of Helene-damaged tunnel
Nearly one year after Hurricane Helene carved its path through the CSRA, local contractors say there is light at the end of the tunnel.

“The committee, after review, recommended it be placed in the needs clarification category as it demonstrates moderate quality in compliance or better but requires clarification and supplemental information to be submitted to show that the petition meets the federal and state requirements of a charter school petition and that it is in the public interest,” Kim Fletcher Bowden, the policy and legal compliance officer, explains.
In March, we told you about SOAR Academy looking for a new home after its building off Washington Road was damaged by Hurricane Helene.
Stem of Faith Academy and AA Steam had their petitions denied.
