(Gray News) – Billy Joel announced Friday he is canceling all scheduled concerts after a recent brain disorder diagnosis.

According to a statement posted on Instagram, Joel was diagnosed with Normal Pressure Hydrocephalus (NPH), which has been exacerbated by recent concert performances.

The singer is having trouble with his hearing, vision and balance.

NPH is a disorder in which excess cerebrospinal fluid builds up in the brain ventricles, according to Johns Hopkins Medicine. Its symptoms can mirror those of Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s diseases.

Johns Hopkins Medicine said the condition is rare and most often affects older adults.

Joel is undergoing specific physical therapy, according to the statement, and has been advised by his doctor to not perform during his recovery period.

“I’m sincerely sorry to disappoint our audience, and thank you for understanding,” he said.

Anyone with tickets to shows remaining on his tour will automatically be refunded to the original payment used for the purchase.
