‘Holy crap’: Woman keeps winning big money in lengthy scratch-off ticket surprise
SHEPHERDSVILLE, Ky. (WBKO/Gray News) - Life for a Kentucky couple has become easier after winning a major jackpot on a lucky scratch-off ticket.
According to the Kentucky Lottery, Vicky Barnes purchased a $10 King Crossword scratch-off ticket at the Bullitt County Supermarket on Clermont Road in Shepherdsville.
It wasn’t until the following week, Tax Day, that she scratched the ticket.
“I scratched the first bonus off and it said $75,000. I called him [her husband] at work immediately and told him I had won really big on the lottery,” the lucky winner told lottery officials. “And while I was talking to him, I scratched off the second bonus and holy crap, I won another $60,000!”
Her husband, Jamie Barnes, thought she was reading the ticket wrong, but she indeed won the game’s top prize.
Vicky Barnes said she figured she won $135,000, but then she scratched the remaining part of the ticket that revealed the $150,000 jackpot in total.
On April 21, the couple drove to the Kentucky Lottery headquarters in Louisville, where they walked away with a check for $108,000 after taxes.
“It makes life easier,” Jamie Barnes told lottery officials.
The couple said they plan to buy a car and put some winnings towards remodeling their home. The Bullitt County Supermarket will receive $1,500 for selling the winning ticket.
The King Crossword game went on sale to players in February. This was the first $150,000 prize claimed, with still one more top jackpot prize available.
