AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - New on Thursday night, new restaurants, homes and retail stores could soon be arriving in downtown Augusta.

The massive mixed-use project would be nested in the heart of Laney Walker Boulevard.

Just hours ago, crowds of community weighed in on the proposed project.

The FBI confirms that it’s been at the Augusta-Richmond County Municipal Building this week. However, the agency is not saying exactly what it's investigating.

Builders are calling it “Whitney Park Place.”

The plan includes about 54 single-family homes and 40 town homes, three restaurants, a green space and a community center.

“It’s about revitalization. How can we revitalize a community? And also, bring back community living. We want to make sure people know their neighbors, people are ing one another, and that community center is going to be able to facilitate that,” said Brea Elles.

She says it’ll take about three years before work gets started on the development.

Construction is set to take seven years once it gets started.
