Salvation Army’s new Center of Hope project still in early stages
AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - We checked in on where progress stands at the Salvation Army’s new soon-to-be Center of Hope.
The vacant building sits on Hale Street.
The new facility will help house more people experiencing homelessness.
FBI has been ‘conducting law enforcement activities’ at Augusta city offices
The FBI confirms that it’s been at the Augusta-Richmond County Municipal Building this week. However, the agency is not saying exactly what it's investigating.

Last month, we told you crews were clearing out the building.
On Thursday, the Salvation Army told us the project is still in its early stages.
“Basically, what we’ve done is we’ve acquired a building on Hill Street. What they’re doing right now is they’re going through the building doing asbestos removal. Eventually, that building is going to get torn down, and we will build a new building there. But it’s super early stages,” said Janelys Villalta, marketing & pr strategist, Salvation Army of Augusta.

She says the current center of hope was never planned to be a homeless shelter.
However, due to the rise in homelessness, they took those people in and formed the shelter there.
She says the new Center of Hope will be much bigger.
