AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - Scattered showers and thunderstorms are expected for the start of Sunday. Few showers and storms will pop up in the afternoon as well.

Sunday highs will be warmer in the mid to upper 80s. There is a low marginal threat (1/5) for severe storms on Sunday and again on Memorial Day. Any severe storms that form will be capable of producing damaging wind gusts up to 60 mph, hail up to 1″ in diameter, and locally heavy rainfall. Dangerous cloud-to-ground lightning could also be a hazard.

Storm chances continue into Memorial Day Monday and most of next week as the front from the weekend stalls across the region. Highs will be warm Monday in the low to mid 80s. Scattered storms look likely mainly in the afternoon/evening and could last into Monday night. Tuesday could be cooler, staying in the 70s as a northeast flow of wind develops at the surface and cloud cover stays elevated along with rain chances.
