ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) - Police in the city of Dalton are investigating what they suspect to be a double murder-suicide.

A man is believed to have shot and killed his wife before traveling to his girlfriend’s home and shooting her, too. He then turned the gun on himself, police said.

None of those involved have been identified, as next of kin notification is still pending.

The investigation began on Friday when police were called to an apartment on Murray Avenue. A woman’s coworkers had asked for a welfare check after she hadn’t been seen for several days.

The apartment complex’s staff let officers into the unit, where they found the man’s wife with a gunshot wound to her head.

Officers said surveillance video showed the suspect leaving the woman’s apartment on Wednesday. Police then tracked the vehicle to another apartment complex on Shadow Lane and found it in a parking lot.

While waiting on a search warrant to be approved on Saturday morning, officers said they saw a man — later identified as the second victim’s father — enter the apartment. He said he came to check on his daughter after she hadn’t been heard from in days.

The man then called 911 to report the suspect and his girlfriend dead inside the apartment from gunshot wounds.
