Murph challenge: The ultimate workout
AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - Thousands across the country took part in the Murph Challenge on Monday.
A fitness test made popular by Navy SEAL Lieutenant Michael Murphy.
Murphy was a part of Operation Red Wings. One of the greatest losses in naval warfare, Red Wings,is depicted in the movie Lone Survivor.
The Murph challenge is what Lieutenant Murphy did often. The workout consists of two miles, 300 squats, 200 push-ups, and 100 sit-ups or pull-ups.
It’s typically done with a 20 or 12-pound vest on.
Jason Hulse, a local veteran, hasn’t missed a Murph challenge since 2021.
“There are people out there right now fighting for our country, and we’re here,” said Hulse. “We’re at home. We’re comfortable.”
“Even in the past years, in the past wars, there have been people who sacrificed their lives for our freedom,” he said. “And, again, this is just a small token of appreciation, to get together as a community. But that’s what that really means. Just taking that reminder, even when you’re going through the workout, even when it gets tired and grueling, keep going.”
