CDC will stop recommending COVID-19 shots to healthy children and pregnant women, RFK Jr. says
(Gray News) - The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention will no longer be recommending routine COVID-19 shots to healthy children and pregnant women.
U.S. Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. announced the change in a video posted on X on Tuesday.
“As of today, the COVID vaccine for healthy children and healthy pregnant women has been removed from the CDC’s recommended immunization schedule,” Kennedy said in the video.
Pregnancy is listed on the CDC’s website as a risk factor for complications from COVID-19. Children with underlying medical conditions are also considered at high risk for severe illness from COVID-19.
U.S. Food and Drug istration Commissioner Dr. Marty Makary and National Institutes of Health Director Dr. Jay Bhattacharya appeared with Kennedy in the video.
The change to the CDC’s immunization schedule comes as the federal istration reworks its COVID-19 vaccine policies.
Last week, the FDA announced it is limiting approval to routine COVID-19 shots to older Americans and people with underlying medical conditions.
