McCormick County selected for German company’s first North American operation
PLUM BRANCH, S.C. (WRDW/WAGT) - Mikro-Technik, a national fiber manufacturer, announced it will open its first North American operation in McCormick County.
The $3.2 million investment will create 27 new jobs in the county, according to the South Carolina Department of Commerce.
Mikro-Technik is leasing and upfitting the building on Highway 28/221 South in Plum Branch, according to the Department of Commerce.
Augusta University research team chosen for $4 million grant
A research team at Augusta University is receiving more than $4 million dollars to do cardiovascular research.

The new operation will expand production to customers in the U.S. and Canada, the company says.
The renovations and opening is expected to be complete in between July and September.
South Carolina’s Coordinating Council for Economic Development awarded a $350,000 Rural Infrastructure Fund grant to McCormick County to assist with the costs of building improvements.
Aiken County speller eliminated in 1st round at national bee
The best young spellers in the English language are competing this week at the Scripps National Spelling Bee – and one of them is a kid from Aiken County.

McCormick County Councilman Bernie Hamby says the county is pleased to welcome the company.
“We are pleased that Mikro-Technik has selected McCormick County as a place to locate its first operation outside of . It is exciting to see this company lease and upfit the McCormick County speculative building to create jobs and provide an economic boost for McCormick County,” Hamby says.
