Second brother dies days after fiery traffic accident in Aiken County

BEECH ISLAND, S.C. (WRDW/WAGT) - A second person has died a little over 10 days after a fiery car crash claimed the life of a teenager in Aiken County.

Aiken County Coroner Darryl Ables said 21-year-old Syntavion Priester, of Williston, was pronounced deceased at 12:34 p.m. Tuesday from injuries suffered in the crash.

Priester was a rear-seat enger in a 2014 Ford Fusion that sped away from a traffic stop on Sheraton Drive, disregarded a traffic light at Old Jackson Highway and Sheraton Drive and struck a 2021 Chevrolet Suburban that was traveling south on Old Jackson Highway around 8:40 p.m. May 15, according to Ables.

An autopsy will be conducted Wednesday in Newberry.

Priester was the brother of the other person killed in the accident, 16-year-old Jaquavis Baptiste, who was pronounced dead at a hospital on the night of the crash.

Baptiste was a front-seat enger in the car.

The coroner’s office and South Carolina Highway Patrol are continuing with the investigation.
