STATESBORO, Ga. (WTOC/Gray News) - Swimmers reported feeling an electric shock over the holiday weekend while they were at a Statesboro water park.

The Splash in the Boro water park in Statesboro remains open, but the gate to the wave pool was still locked on Tuesday.

This comes after several swimmers, on one of the busiest days of the year, claimed to have been shocked in the water.

The park had recently opened for the summer season, but guests who went to the park over Memorial Day weekend said things quickly turned into “chaos.”

A mother, who asked not to be on camera, said her children were both “electrically shocked” while they were in the wave pool along with several others.

They described it as “extremely painful” and what you imagine a “jellyfish sting to be over and over.”

The mother said she and others quickly alerted the staff. First responders and Statesboro fire trucks were called to the scene to investigate the situation.

Officials said out of an abundance of caution, the wave pool was closed. Guests were examined but not taken to the hospital.

Georgia Power trucks also responded to the wave pool on Tuesday. A blower unit potentially shorted out or overheated, causing the sensation of the shocks, documents stated.

Splash in the Boro posted on its Facebook page Monday that the wave pool remained closed while telling guests there was no health threat to the swimmers who had been in the pool.

Statesboro officials said that all electrical systems were found to be operating within standard levels, but they are continuing to look into the situation.
