AIKEN, S.C. (WRDW/WAGT) - Midland Valley High School’s Preston Butler is headed to the National Junior College Athletic Association, or JUCO for short, for basketball.

JUCO is becoming the more popular option due to the inundated transfer portal.

Butler has a chance to make a name for himself before he s a name program, and he’s headed to one of the best.

Davidson Davie is the winningest JUCO basketball program in the nation.

It’s Butler’s hope that it puts him on recruiters’ radar.

“Athletically, [JUCO] builds character. They say that the JUCO level is the nitty-gritty, it’s the grind, it’s the hard work. It’s really where dogs are made and built. It’s tough, also, because everybody is trying to get out, they’re trying to make it to that next level, so it builds character. I believe it prepares you mentally,” Butler said about his decision.

Butler is the first basketball player in the Dave Corder Era to sign.

He averaged 17 points per game and 4.5 rebounds.
