Woman sentenced for 2023 crash that killed man in Columbia County
EVANS, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - A Thomson woman has been sentenced in the 2023 crash that left an 82-year-old man dead in Columbia County, according to authorities.
Brittany Michelle Hodges has been sentenced for a total of 10 years, according to the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office.
Officials say the first four years will be served in confinement and the remainder will be served on probation.
Driver arrested in crash that killed 23-year-old on Deans Bridge Road
An Augusta man has been arrested in connection to a crash that killed a 23-year-old earlier this week, according to officials.

In February 2024, Hodges was charged with homicide by vehicle in the first degree, possession of schedule II drugs, failure to maintain lane, driving under the influence of drugs/less safe, reckless driving and driving while unlicensed or expired license, according to the sheriff’s office.
On Dec. 8, 2023, Eugene Hester, 82, was driving a 2000 Nissan Frontier when he was killed after a crash on Interstate 20 near mile marker 194.5, according to the crash report from the sheriff’s office.
Hodges was driving a 2018 Mitsubishi Outlander and was marked at fault for the crash, the report states.
2nd suspect arrested in deadly shooting at Augusta apartments
A second suspect has been arrested in connection to a fatal shooting at an Augusta apartment complex last week.

Officials report that Hester was traveling east on I-20, and Hodges was traveling west when for “unknown reasons” she left the road, causing the front of her vehicle to hit the median barrier.
According to the report, Hodges then crossed two eastbound lanes before hitting Hester in the outside lane.
A toxicology report revealed Hodges tested positive for methadone, amphetamine, methamphetamine, lidocaine and citalopram.
