HAMILTON, Ohio (WLWT) - A 9-year-old boy’s quick thinking saved his pregnant mother and unborn baby sister.
His family is now calling him their hero.
“My mom could have died,” Oliver Ware said.
On May 2, Nicky Ware suffered a life-threatening complication while 35 weeks into her pregnancy,
“I heard this big thump,” Oliver said.
Oliver found his mother lying unconscious on the floor.
“I was panicking, moving her back and forth,” Oliver ed. “I was saying, ‘Mom, mom!’”
Oliver had just gotten home from school. His father, Jeff Ware, was still at work.
The 9-year-old didn’t hesitate and called 911.
“My mom was in the restroom and she just ed out and I need your help!” Oliver could be heard saying on the call with the 911 dispatcher.
Oliver was able to provide his address for help.
“I told her everything that was going on. She realized that I was just a kid,” Oliver said.
He also told the 911 dispatcher that his mother was pregnant.
“I was mostly thinking to myself, ‘I’ll do anything just to wake my mom up,’” Oliver said.
Oliver stayed by his mother’s side until paramedics arrived.
“The fact that he was able to pick up the phone, know what to do, who to get a hold, that it was key,” Jeff Ware said.
Doctors say high blood pressure caused Oliver’s mother to suffer multiple seizures, which could have cut oxygen flow to baby Riley.
“He had to save momma and his sister. That’s what he did,” Jeff Ware added. “To me, that’s the definition of a hero.”
The big brother can now say he has protected his baby sister from day one.

“I’ve always wanted a sibling and I was like, it’s finally done!” Oliver said.
Oliver credits the 911 operator and his grandmother for helping him keep calm through the scary situation.
The fourth grader also says he learned about what to do in an emergency from a class in school.
“Good to know I’ve got this guy here to look out. He’s got all our backs,” Oliver’s father said.
