AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - Evans distance runner Liliana Beamer has just returned home from competing at the Atlanta City Games Meet of Champions.

It’s one of the most competitive track and field events in the Peach State.

However, knowing Liliana, it was no surprise that she got the invite.

“You know, the runner’s high is a real thing,” said Liliana Beamer, GHSA 5A 1600m state champion.

It’s the track where she stays grounded.

A lot of times it’s against the clock, not yourself.

“Whenever you’re out on an empty track like this, I think that’s the time that it really shows who’s got the guts,” said Beamer.

Beemer has been beaming her way to the top of the podium.

She has three regional titles, a state runner-up finish and one state title to cap off her sophomore year.

Last July, a teen old from Wrens was gunned down in an Augusta parking lot on Peach Orchard Road. Now authorities have made a new arrest in the case.

She’s putting the pedal down to bring home the medal.

“I run seven days a week, I hit around 50 miles a week. I go to the gym three times a week,” said Beamer. “I’m lucky enough to have my dad, who will be out here with me every step of the way, he’s out here pacing me, out here biking next to me, so that’s a lot of motivation there.”

The work Beamer puts in has her ranked 20th in the nation, not that you would necessarily know it.

Everyone sees that five-minute clip of the mile of what you’re doing in the race, but they don’t see the hours and hours and years of training and practice,” said Beamer.
