DAHLONEGA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - North Georgia didn’t have to look far to name their next head baseball coach.

Nolan Belcher from Georgia College & State will now transition to his next Peach Belt Conference program.

Belcher spent five seasons with the Bobcats, leading GCSU a 142-108 (.568) record and three 30-win seasons during his five spent in Milledgeville.

The national search for a head coach began after longtime leader Tom Cantrell decided to retire. Cantrell spent 26 seasons with North Georgia, picking up more than 1,000 career wins.

Belcher attended Greenbrier High School where he was coached by now Harlem athletic director, Rodney Holder.

After playing for The Pack, Belcher aided South Carolina to back-to-back national titles in 2010 and 2011 plus a runner-up finish in 2012.

The Belcher era officially begins on June 9.
