Greenbrier’s Daniel Jordan moving from the sidelines to the hallways
EVANS, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - The head coach who helped put Greenbrier’s Girls Varsity Flag Football team on the map is stepping away from the sidelines.
Daniel Jordan, who also served as an assistant coach for Greenbrier’s Varsity Girls Golf team, announced that he will become the next Assistant Principal at Greenbrier Middle School.
“It’s going to be different, stepping off the field,” said Jordan. “I don’t think it’s fully hit me yet, but there will probably be some emotions that come along with it.”
In just the five years that the Georgia High School Association adopted varsity girls flag football as a sport, Jordan led the Wolfpack to back-to-back Division 2 State Championships in 2024 and 2025.
Alongside head coach Casey Heckathorn, Jordan helped the girls golf team win the 5A State Championship in 2023, and claim state runner-up in 2024.
Jordan says he spent 18 years coaching across 35 different teams, coaching nearly 1,000 athletes, and teaching over 2,000 students in the classroom.
“Moving into a different role in istration, I still think that’s part of a team,” said Jordan. “Hopefully those are qualities that will help me be successful in that role, but no doubt I’ll miss being on the field.”
Having dedicated so much of his career to coaching, Jordan says he’s looking forward to spending more time with his family.
“I feel like I’ve gotten to chase everything that I’ve wanted as a coach,” said Jordan.
Now that his move is solidified, the next leader of the Pack’s flag football team is someone that Jordan has full faith to carry the torch.
Having previously served as defensive coordinator for the last five years, James Smith will begin calling the shots starting next season.
“I didn’t want to see someone else come in and change what we’ve built and established,” said Smith. “I’m excited to take charge.”
“He’s the obvious choice,” said Jordan.
Smith’s first roster as head coach will feature multiple returning seniors, as well as several new faces ready to keep the team ahead of the pack.
