Suspect arrested in Augusta for Burke County murder case
WAYNESBORO, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - A suspect has been arrested in connection with the death of a man in Waynesboro.
According to the Waynesboro Police Department, Jayven Ward was arrested on Tuesday in the Salem Arms Apartment Complex in Richmond County for the murder of Bruce Mitchell.
The police department says Ward has 22 outstanding felony warrants related to this case and others.


While on scene, authorities say they recovered five firearms, numerous magazines, bullets and marijuana.
The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office Special Operations Division and the U.S. Marshal’s Office also responded to the scene.
More charges may be pending, according to officers.

On Tuesday, federal authorities said they seized enough fentanyl in a recent drug bust to kill 48 million people. That’s more than four times the population of Georgia.

On May 20, a family member of Mitchell reported him missing at the Waynesboro Police Department.
Officers went to his residence on the 200 block of Lover’s Lane to conduct a welfare check. Officers found Mr. Mitchell deceased inside of the home.

Officers say this case is considered a homicide at this time.
