Finding Solutions: Grace Place Mission Center needs help feeding kids during summer
MARTINEZ, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - With school being out and summer in full force, Grace Place Mission Center in Martinez is seeing a lot of new faces, and they need more help.
The mission center offers a food pantry, a clothing closet, Bible study and a senior food box program, and they celebrated their two-year anniversary in March.
On Thursday, they had 58 families show up and had to close early because they ran out of food.
They say they need non-perishable food items like canned goods and any other items that do not require refrigeration.
CSRA parents finding it hard to find adequate childcare
On Tuesday, at the Greater Augusta Black Chamber of Commerce in Evans, there was a roundtable discussion between childcare center owners and elected officials discussing some of the specific problems with childcare.
“During the summer time, a lot of different agencies try to help with that, but we do see more kids coming in because the kids are at home and they snack and eat, and they go through food a lot quicker,” said Greg Mason, Director, Grace Place Mission Center.
They are currently located off Riverwatch Parkway, but they are working to move to a larger facility in July, a couple of miles away on Old Evans Road, pending zoning approval next week.
”If you want to donate to our food pantry, or your church’s food pantry, everybody across the area is trying to fill the gap for kids home from school and needing extra lunches, so any agency across the area could certainly use the donations right now, we are certainly among those,” said Mason.
The mission center is open on:
- Tuesday - 9 a.m. - 6 p.m.
- Thursday - 9 a.m. - 3 p.m.
- Saturday - 12 p.m. - 5 p.m.
