COLUMBIA COUNTY, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) -- It's down to the wire.
"The team is saying we have to finish the drill, we have to run through until tomorrow 7 pm."
Campaign signs are standing strong outside but, you've probably already heard each candidate’s platform. Herbert wants more citizen advisory boards for county decisions.
“I think it's time to make a big change. I think it's time that citizens take their house back over,” said Mark Herbert.
Tucker says she's an advocate for small businesses like the one we're in.
“We need to as we do all of our small businesses because thriving small businesses mean a thriving community,” said Pam Tucker.
And Duncan says his focus---
“Obviously the traffic, the growth we're receiving from us army cyber moving here and growth control, to make sure we grow the right way,” said Doug Duncan.
But they've each run this race at different speeds.
A marathon-long fourteen months for Tucker, more like a 10k for the past year for Herbert and a sprint--for Duncan. Just four months.
Dozens of speeches and thousands of handshakes later each one says they know this race leads to a runoff, but things may just be different this year.
“I've been praying for a clean sweep and that's what I have in my mind. And I think the people of Columbia County will hopefully do that to help,” said Herbert.
“Uh, a clean wipe out for who?” says Tucker.
“In an election like this, a primary election, especially in May, a 20 percent turnout is probably more than likely a reality,” says Duncan.
The candidates say bright and early tomorrow they'll start making their rounds to the voting precincts. Now if it turns out there is a run-off that election will come July 24th but it won’t be officially decided until November.
